Hallo zusammen, was mich interessieren würde: gibt es eine andere Bedeutung für „live“ (als im Fernseh-Kontext) und warum spricht man das „i“ aus wie in „life“, während das Verb „to live“ ja mit kurzem „i“ gesprochen wird. Oder ist das ne Abkürzung von „alive“? Danke, Hans

je nach Zusammenhang bedeutet das Adjektiv „live“:
direkt, heiß, lebend, lebendig, lebhaft, scharf, spannungsführend, stromführend, unter Spannung stehend, unverzögert
Es ist eine Kurzform von „alive“, daher die Aussprache. Die Erklärungen zur Aussprache sind aber nicht immer so einfach, man kann z.B. die Buchstabenkombination „ough“ auf 14 verschiedene Weisen aussprechen. Siehe dazu das folgende Gedicht:

Finally: which rimes with „enough“,
Though, through, plough, cough, hough, or trough?
Hiccough has the sound of „cup“…

Dearest Myriam (Mairiäm?) …und mich dachte immer ich könnte einigermassen gut Englisch, aber in fast jeder Zeile war mindestens eine Falle. Aber anhand der Reimwörter konnte ich mir dann ja zumindest das jeweils letzte Wort der Zeile erschließen.
