Stammt als Begriff aus der „Go West“-Stimmung der frühen USA.
Hab die Story aber vergessen, kann mir jemand auf die Sprünge helfen?

Laut Oxford Dictionary ist der Ursprung von ‚the real McCoy‘ unbekannt, aufgekommen ist es im 19. Jhd., es steht natuerlich fuer ‚den richtigen Artikel‘, nix nachgemachtes, verfaelschtes.

Alles klar, ich kannte nur die Geschichte mit dem Vieh-Baron, die mir aber wieder entfallen war, die anderen Ansätze hatte ich noch nie gehört.
Wenn man „Real McCoy“ in eine Suchmaschine eingibt, kriegt man nur haufenweise Zeugs von einer Pop-Gruppe, die sich so nennt…
