Why is Ebay called Ebay?
Conventional Wisdom has it that Pierre Omidyar, founder of the Web’s preeminent auction site, named his creation after the San Francisco Bay Area. A common misconception that people have is that they assume that the “E” in Ebay stands for electronic as it did in the name of Omidyar’s previous company, “EShop”. Omidyar had initially named his new site “EchoBay”. However back in 1995 when Omidyar had arrived to the trademark office to secure his name “EchoBay” he had discovered that the name had already been taken. Within a moment of consideration “Ebay” was born. But why EchoBay in the first place? “Because it had a nice sound to it” Omidyar said.

ja ich hab auch verschiedene sachen ausprobiert, aber halt in engl. da is die chance auf erfolg größer 
beim 3. versuch:
