Hallo,
Nowadays Indian has throughout the world enrmous importance. It won’t take long that India will have more inhabitants than China and India’s already a great competitior
for other industrial countries. What important role India has, is also shown by the many reports of india and its economical advancement. Also in Europe you can notice the indian globalisation. So India was host country at the the Frankfurt Book Fair and also the indian culture enjoys great popularity. There are more and more indian restaurants and a lot of the import goods are from india, especially sugar and tea is exported but also spices and rice. Very popular is also the indian music, especially its pop music and the most heard singer is aswell an Indian: Asha Boshle, but mainly indian music acts as background music for the Bollywood films, and a lot of these films are also screened in Germany. Basic elements in indian movies are dance scenes and singing and they are mostly composed of dramatical, comical and romantic scenes. The indian film production is the biggest worldwide, 1000 films are produced a year, 250 of them are
Bollywood films. So Bollywood doesn’t characterise the whole indian film production
But only those films which are shot in Bombay, today called Mumbai. Indian music and films Are especially famous in the U.K., where the indian culture is widely spread. The British actually like the indian culture but nicht so the Indian as people. In fact Britain has the greatest xenophobia rate in europe. After the decolonisation the U.K. accorded their former colonies free emigration until 1962, this involved a big einwanderstrom, the main reasons for the emigrants leaving their country were poverty, job search, hope for a better life and political persecution. But the British domestic politicy wasn’t oriented to assimilation and integration. So in Britain there developed a subculture. Many indians and other emigrants etablished in suburbs of London or other big countries and opened cornershops, which are little shops often opened 24h a day. In the beginning the immigrants were content with their condition and didn’t barge in british affaires but it didn’t take long when they wanted to have same the chances in professionell life and in training opportunities as the British. That led to growing racism and there were so many terrorist attackes that even Prinz Charles appealed to more tolerance. But xenophobia and discrimination are still big problems in the U.K. also in the second generation of the immigrants. In Britain there live 92,1% white population and 7.9% ethnical groups. 1.8% are Indians. Alltogether there live 25million indian or people of indian descent abroad, one million of them in the U.K… This relativ small percentage is caused by the many indians which were emitted from the British during the time of colonialism as billigarbeiter to other former British colonies. The well-trained indians mainly moved to
Canada, the USA or the U.K… Very interesting is also that banc transfers from emigrated indians represent a large part of the indian economic factor.
