2.nvidia treiber Installation fehlgeschlagen

Hallo,
ich habe gestern mit Erfolg den Nvidia-Treiber installiert.(Suse 8.1) Dann habe ic h mit you updates geholt und dann war der Nvidia-Treiber wieder zurückgesetzt. Habe schon mit „switch2nvidia“,„sax2“ versucht das wieder zu ändern, ohne Erfolg. Der Bildschirm wird schwarz, flackert kurz weiß auf und ich lande dann im runlevel 3. Ich weiß nicht mehr was ich machen soll. Vielleicht kann mir jemand helfen. Habe mal die Datei XF86Config hier rein kopiert.

das Online-Update hat den Eintrag „Driver“ von „nv“ wieder auf „nvidia“ geaendert. Versuche als erstes mal diesen Eintrag auf „nv“ (das ist der Nvidia-Treiber) zu aendern, das muesste eigentlich schon helfen.

Ja, es hilft. Aber nicht für den 3D-Support. „nv“ ist der von XFree mitgelieferte 2D-Nvidia Treiber. Wenn Du 3D-Support haben willst, dann brauchst Du schon den von NVidia gestellten „nvidia“ Treiber.

SuSE selbst warnt vor dem update des Kernels davor, dass dann ein neuer NVidia-Treiber erforderlich ist. Am besten, Du lädst ihn direkt von NVidia runter und befolgst die Anleitung unter

Hallo,
danke für eure Hilfe.Mein Problem ist, daß ich den nvidia treiber nicht installieren kann. nv läuft. Habe eine Kopie von der „alten“ XF86Config Datei gemacht und so kann ich immer wieder auf nv zurück. Sonst würde ich gar kein Bild mehr bekommen. Vielleicht weiß jemand, wie ich wieder zu nvidia treiber kommen kann.

Ja, es hilft. Aber nicht für den 3D-Support. „nv“ ist der von

haben willst, dann brauchst Du schon den von NVidia gestellten
„nvidia“ Treiber.

Nein! „nv“ ist der Grafiktreiber von Nvidia. Der X-window-Treiber heisst „nvidia“. Die 3D Beschleunigung kann nur dann funktionieren, wenn der Nvidia-Treiber geladen ist. Der fuer 3D noetige Eintrag ist bereits korrekt eingetragen, sobald der Nvidia-Treiber geladen wurde, wird bei ihm auch die 3D-Beschleunigung funktionieren.

Accelerated bezieht sich hier auf die 2D Funktionalität. Hardware 3D Support gibts nur, wenn man den entsprechenden Treiber nebst Kernel-Patch von NVidia runterläd. Zur Unterscheidung heisst der dann auch „nvidia“ und nicht „nv“.

Zitat aus der NVidia README zum Linux-Treiber:

[...]
replace the line:

 Driver "nv"
 (or Driver "vesa")

with 

 Driver "nvidia" 

In the Module section, make sure you have:

 Load "glx"

You should also remove the following lines:

 Load "dri"
 Load "GLcore"

if they exist.

Du erkennst den NVidia Treiber auch an dem NVidia splash-screen, das beim Start des X Servers rumnervt. Man kann es übrigens mit der Option

Option „NoLogo“ „on“

in der XF86Config, Section „Device“ abschalten.

Du hast Recht, ich hatte den Begriff „Beschleunigung“ nur auf 3D bezogen.
Es bedankt sich, ein wieder etwas kluegerer…

Huch, das sehe ich ja jetzt erst, dass es da noch ein Problem gab. Hat sich das inzwischen erledigt?

Wenn nein: Warum genau kannst Du den Treiber nicht installieren? Gibt es verwertbare Fehlermeldungen?

Das ist auch nicht weiter schwer. Du musst nur einen einzigen Eintrag ändern. Das geht zur Not auch von Hand. In der Section „Device“ gibt es einen Eintrag „Driver“. Dort wird entweder „nvidia“ oder „nv“ eingetragen.
