Guten Abend!
Morgen muss ich ein wichtiges Essay abgeben.
Nachdem wir „The Perks of Being a Wallflower“
Danke !
In the novel „The Perks of Being a Wallflower“, written by Stephen Chbosky, the main character, Charlie, experiences his first year in high school. Also if they are a few years older than him, he becomes a friend of seniors, who have only left one year in high school.
When you first read the novel, it may seem totally confusing to one who does not know much about the American education system.
The last year of high school does not share many things with the last year of school in Germany.
The most obviously difference between a high school and a Gymnasium is that you can graduate high school with different graduations, whereas finishing a Gymnasium always automatically makes you graduate with the Abitur.
Another differential between the Graduation years is that high school students have to make more for getting on a college, which can be compared with a german university. They have to write formal letters, why they want to go on the College they choose or have to make tests. If one wants to study in Germany he does not have to make all those things, the most important point for a university is how much grade points you got on your Abitur.
The last big difference between the last year in high school and the last year in a Gymnasium is how different this last year lets one grow up.
Most of the graduating high school students will leave their home after this last year and will live in a college far away from their home. They are already starting their travel with writing applications like adults and caring about the money they have to spend on their education at a College.
In Germany young people doing their Abitur are not under that much pressure.
If they want, most of them get taken at a university near their home or about one hour away or they decide to do a year abroad instead of immediately beginning to study or they make a apprenticeship. Often they stay at home for another plenty of years or at least in their hometown.
They have more time to finally decide what they want to do later. High school students have to decide in their senior year.
All in all one can say that the last year of high school and the last year of Gymnasium do share many similarities but also very much differences, especially correlated to getting mature.
