Hi Wolfgang,
I quote:
‚You may wish to take a radio, hair dryer or other gadgets. Before you pack, make sure they will work correctly on the Cuban electricity supply. This is usually the same as elsewhere in the Americas, ie 110 volts at 60Hz compared to the European supply of around 240 volts at 50 Hz (though many hotels now have 220v supplies too). Some equipment is switchable between these voltages and frequencies, but other items will not work correctly at the lower voltage, and those with motors will run too fast.
Power cuts, voltage drops and frequency fluctuations are regular occurences, so think twice before plugging in sensitive equipment such as a portable computer.
Most Cuban electrical sockets accept plugs with two flat or round pins. Travel adaptors sold abroad should be able to cope with the sockets. Note that there is rarely an Earth pin (gibts in Deutschland ja auch nicht - das ist von Englaendern geschrieben), and that the state of most Cuban electrical fittings is dreadful; an alarming number of hotel rooms have bare live wires showing. Take great care.‘
Gruss, und viel Spass in Cuba!
Isabel
