Hallo habe eine ganz blöde Aufgabe für meinen englischen Linguistic Kurs bekommen. Wäre echt nett, wenn mir jemand helfen könnte. Also hier ist die Aufgabe: Add what punctuation you think is necessary in the following sentences and discuss them in terms of their grammatical form and the speeck acts they express

  1. Was he livid? [rhetorical question] interrogative/assertion
  2. George the window´s open! directive
  3. Would you open your books on page three, please. interrogative/directive

Hast Du da schon punctuation hinzugefuegt?
Und die Zugaben, eg ‚directive‘, sind die von Dir?
Es widerspricht sich naemlich alles ein bisschen.

  1. George, the window is open!
    ist eine Tatsache, ueber die ich George informiere.
    Ich sage ja nicht: George, close the window! (command/directive)

  2. Would you open your books on page three, please.
    interrogative??? it’s a command, ie an ‚order‘ given to people.

  3. Was he livid?
    Frage an jemanden.
    Was he livid!
    rhethorical - no question at all, but for emphasis.
