Hi John,
Look in the root of your pc and see if there is an ethan.___ file
If so open it in an editor and remove all the source save it empty, because this virus is checking if the file excists, if so it thinks that your pc is already infected, if you remove the source and keep the file nothing happens and you can start cleaning the mess. Check your normal.dot it is also infected.
This post is being sent from another, non infected computer.
I’m operating an IBM compatible computer with Win 98, Word 97, Norton Anti-Virus 5.0 (updated). I’ve been infected with virus identified as W97M.Ethan.A. If I run my Norton Scan it shows a clean system. If I open up a file I get a warning that I have a virus. The Norton will repair the infection and that file will continue to appear to be clean. Now, if I send that same repaired file to someone they will get a warning when they open the file that it is infected. The virus appears to be attached to each individual file but is not detectable by the Norton Scan.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to clean up my system.
