General information
Through countless pictures no canyon is as well known as the Grand Canyon.
No other canyon acts more impressive on the viewer than the Colorado River canyons in northern Arizona.
Because the Colorado Plateau has raised millions of years to now over 2000 miles, the Colorado dig so deep in the red rock.
The Grand Canyon owes its existence the interaction of various factors and its still one of the best known and most popular attractions at the United States.
Every year four million people visit the Grand Canyon National Park.
The majority of these visit the better developed South Rim, while the less visit the natural part of the Grand Canyon the North Rim.
In high seasons the South Rim is often crowded. So much that parking could be a problem
To stop this problem visitors are limited.
The most visitors only go to the make stops at the famous viewpoints and short walks along the rims.
But the right amount of the Grand Canyon you can only understand when you walk inside.
Over several well developed paths down you can reach the rugged shores of the Colorado River
In 2006 a new attraction at the Grand Canyon West has opened; the Skywalk.
It is a glass bridge at a height of nearly 1300 meters. This is almost three times higher than the Sears Tower in Chicago.
Beside and below only glass.
Access is initially on a temporary tunnel, and later by the Visitor Center, which is scheduled for completion in early 2007. The drive from Las Vegas is about 2 1/2 hours.
