As a native speaker with two vegetarian sons, I would definitely agree that a vegetable or vegetarian cutlet is what one expect to buy in an British supermarket.

I think it depends on the reasons for being a veggie.
If the motivation behind it is animal welfare, you might well relish the taste of meat.

As a „vegetarian“ too, I´d say, you ought to keep in mind, that those „products“ not really exactly copy the taste or smell of meat; at least as long as I know (and could experience)…

Ja, wie man auch in diesem Forum immer wieder feststellt
ich gehöre schließlich dazu.
Du fängst aber nicht jeden Satz mit dem Hinweis an, du seist deutscher Muttersprachler, um dann anschließend ein wenig zu radebrechen.

aber es gibt ja auch den sog. Verlust der Muttersprache…

Wenn der Vegetarier für Gäste oder Partner oder Kinder kocht, dann kann er beef eater veralbern oder verführen durch eine fleischliche Form.
Zudem: Diese Form suggeriert auch Wahrheit - meist ist ja viel Eiweiß in den Pseudo-Schnitzeln und -Burgern!

Ähm, ja es handelt sich hierbei um den „veggie burger“.

Nein!
Ein „veggie burger“ ist was anderes, das gibts auch bei McDonalds, das ist ein „pattie“ (=der eigentliche Burger), der aus verschiedenen Gemüse, zum Teil puriert, zusammengemischt ist, in Form eines Fleischpattys gebracht wird, und dann wie ein Fleischpattie mit Ketchup, Mayo, Salatblättern und ev. einer Tomatenscheibe und ein paar Gurkenscheiben zwischen ein Brötchen geklemmt wird. Und „veggie burger“ gibts genauso im Englischen.
Und ein „vegetarian cutlet“ ist eine ähnlich zustande gekommenes Stück Etwas, meist ebenfalls wie der Burger, paniert, meist dünner, und in der Form eines Schnitzels (also nicht rund, eher länglich).
Hier greift die Unterscheidung zwischen AE und BE nicht.

die engländer und amerikaner verstehen das. weil das schnitzel schon weltweit bekant ist.
