Ich habe mir kürzlich die neue Scheibe von JJ72 gekauft und bin hin und weg. Das Album hat zwar nicht die grossen Hits („october swimmer“, „snow“, „oxygen“) wie auf dem Erstling, dafür ist sie aber durch und durch ein nicht abbrechendes Meisterwerk an gefühlvoller Musik! Ich freue mich schon unglaublich auf das Konzert vom 1. Dezember in Zürich *schwärm*…
Jetzt aber meine Frage: Was bedeutet überhaupt der Name JJ72? Ist dies ein Fantasiename oder besagt er etwas bestimmtes?
Vielen Dank und ich freue mich schon jetzt wieder auf ihre nächsten Alben (schliesslich ist das Durchschnittsalter der Band erst 20 Jahre; viele weitere Jahre werden also noch folgen…)!
Das haben die letzens bei Fast Forward erklärt. JJ heißt James Joyce (glaub ich), soll auf jeden Fall eine Abkürzung für einen irischen Dichter sein. Wofür die 72 steht weiß ich nicht.

Following much probing over the course of our various meetings, this time Greaney unexpectedly relents and partly reveals why his group is called JJ72.
„My parents got married in '72, I thought that was important. If they hadn’t, the band wouldn’t exist full stop. The 72 number crept up a lot when myself and Fergal formed the group, a few exams that were cheated in. As for the JJs, reading James Joyce as a 13-year-old was important to me,“ he expands. „It’s so much about Dublin. Funny, very clever and still quite beautiful with a bit of a slap in the back. The Irish have a knack: someone dies and they have an almighty piss-up. That’s what I got from Joyce and Finnegan’s Wake. You can be serious about stuff but you can have a laugh in your own way.“
