Laptop-Modem macht keinen Mucks - was isch dess ?

Hallo Freunde,

Woran kanns liegen ?

Danke im voraus und Gruss,
Stefan

Error 680 No Dial Tone
Hallo Stefan,

This error message almost always occurs because the computer cannot hear the normal dial tone when it picks up the phoneline to dial out through the modem.

  • If you have Call Minder then clear you call minder messages first. Call minder gives you a series of tones to tell you that you have new messages waiting for you. This can cause the modem to not hear a dial tone straight away as it expects to. So make sure that you get a dial tone straight away when you pick up the phone. Call diversion can cause similar problems, and may need to be turned off. Toll bars don’t cause this issue.

  • Try restarting the PC. Use the „Start“ and „Shutdown“ menu to do this.

  • Check that the modem is plugged into a phone point in the wall. Most modems have two sockets at the back that you can plug your modem cord into. They should be labelled „PHONE“ and „LINE“. Check to see that the modem cord is firmly plugged into the „LINE“ socket, with the other end of the cord plugged into a telephone jackpoint.

  • Try another modem cord. These cords can be faulty, and sometimes even the wrong type of cord. Normally, modem cords are black or grey, with two gold pins in the plug. Try a replacement modem cord. Check the cord is plugged in to the „LINE“ socket in the back of the computer or modem.

  • If you are using modem extension cords or double adaptors they may be faulty and need to be replaced. Disconnect any modem extension cords and double adaptors and try using just one modem cord running from your computer to the phone jack point.

  • Check the jack point in the wall for a fault by unplugging the modem cord and plugging a phone into the same jack point. Pick up the phone and see if you can hear a dial tone straight away.

Most of the time this procedure solves the trouble, or at least identifies what needs to be done. If you are still getting a no dial tone error after trying all of the above and your PC is under warrantee then please call you PC vendor for more advice.

Lars.

Mei o mei, selber schuld !!
