übersetzt mal bitte, aber nicht wortwörtlich. Was ist darunter praktisch zu verstehen? Kann das auch organisierte Lernen im Klassenverband sein?

ich verstehe es so - „learning at work, in a factory or other place of manual work“ und dann in einer Schule, Berufsschule usw. die Theorie zu der praktischen Arbeit erlernen.
Man muss allerdings sehr vorsichtig werden mit dem Ausdruck „on the job“. In der Umgangssprache kann es „Geschlechtsverkehr haben“ bedeuten.
Mrs Thatcher hat einmal nicht verstanden, warum im Unterhaus einmal großes Gelächter ausbrach, als sie diesen Ausdruck verwendete. Ich persönlich glaube, dass sie es immer noch nicht richtig verstanden hat, da die „Iron Lady“ manchmal sehr weltfremd war und noch ist.

upps, ich hab den Artikel zweimal geschrieben (wegen einem
kleinen Fehler) und beim zweiten Mal, den off-topic Titel
vergessen.
What is a hasher… kann man eigentlich kaum beschreiben.
Also einer, der bei den Hash House Harriers mitmacht.
Hashing wurde 1938 in Kuala Lumpur angefangen, inzwischen
gibt es sie weltweit, aber hauptsaechlich dort wo sich
englischsprachige Expats rumtreiben. Die Kurzform:
„It’s drinking club with a running problem.“
Weiteres bei Intresse per mail.
Aber wie gesagt, das kann man nicht wirklich erklaeren,
das muss man mitgemacht haben.
Hashing Chapters sind uebrigens unabhaengig voneinander,
d.h. jedes Chapter ist anders. Oberstes Gebot aller
Hashs: „There are no rules“.

„to learn something on the job“ würd ich deswegen ziemlich sicher als „etwas im Beruf lernen“ verstehen, also nicht durch theoretisches Lernen sondern durch praktisches lernen und anwenden („Learning by doing“ 
) …und off the job würd dann wohl heißen, dass man’s nicht im Beruf lernt oder so…hast du vielleicht ne etwas längere Textpassage, dann könnt ich (oder jemand anders) es dir bestimmt präziser sagen

If you mean by „hasher“, a person who uses hash or hashish, then most certainly not. It is hard to believe but absolutely true, remember-„truth is stranger than fiction“. Apart from nicotine and alcohol I have never touched a drug in my life.
If you mean, do I reheat vegetables,cooked meat etc. - then the force of circumstance sometimes makes me do it.
If you mean, did I make a hash(mess) of my answer - it is for you to judge, over to you my dear Alphonse!
If you mean or hinting that I might have chopped the article into small pieces, then I have to tell you that you are in the wrong!
