Dear host family,
First I want to thank you for reading my letter and spending time to get to know me better. I’m grateful that you would welcome me on your farm and let me be a part of your family.
I also thank you for giving me the chance to learn more about Irish culture. I hope that I will spend a nice time in Ireland and make a lot of nice experiences.
I chose Ireland because I learned a lot about the Irish history in my English lessons in school. It was very interesting and I became curious and like to know more about it. Furthermore I heart a lot about the Irish way of life. Irish people should be very friendly and hospitable and it’s easy to strike up a conversation. I like that and I also affect Irish music like U2 and the Pogues and the music that is played in the pubs. One more reason is the awesome landscape. To see the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry is a big request of me. My parents donated me a photographically illustrated book about the charm of the Green Isle and I love it. One pleasure of me is photography. I’m not very good but I try to become better every time I see an interesting photo motif.
Well I inscribed a few of my cause to travel to Ireland for a longer time because I think two weeks are not enough to become acquainted this country.
Now I want to introduce me and my life.
My name is ****** and I’m 20 years old. I’m living in a village near ******** but I was born in a small city called *********. It’s situated in north-west of Germany that’s an area which is very agrarian. To live such countrified was the foundation to be close to nature. It is not surprising that I still enjoy to be outside and that I have a lot of hobbies which are in the nature. One of my biggest is riding on horses. Since I was seven years old horses are my passion. I’m every day in the riding stable to visit my horse. Her name is ******** and she is a Haflinger mare and 26 years old. She is very healthy but I don’t want her to do too much so we often take a walk or go for a ride in the near forest. I hope that we can spend a lot of more years together. One more hobby is snowboarding. Each year I travel to Austria with my friends for snowboarding. It is absorbing to be over the clouds at some days. We are the whole day outside and very active it means a lot of fun.
I also love riding my bike. In the summer month I often take my bike to visit friends or my horse. It’s nice to feel the atmosphere in the forest after a rain shower while cycling and of course riding on ******.
I would describe me as an independent, active, eager learning and interested girl who wants to see foreign counties and visit knew people in the whole world.
My family consists of my mum ****** (52) and my stepfather ******* (59). My sister ******** (26) and my brother ********* (24) who are not living at home anymore. They both have an own apartment in ********* but I visit my sister every weekend. Our two cats ***** and her little daughter ******* belongs also to us.
This year I spent my last time at school and got my university-entrance diploma. I found a lot of new friends in the last three years in school. We spent each recess together and met each other in our free time as well. Most of them are studying now and one of my longest friends is spending one year in Australia.
Whether I’m back from Ireland I want to study too. I’m very interested in business economics and political economics maybe I’m going to find an interesting program of study with these contents.
In summer I made a placement on a farmyard to learn more about animal breeding. I spent two weeks at this farm and had a few duties I had to make each day. For example feeding animals like the cats, ducks, goats and chickens. I had to serve two horses on my own as well. I also chased the goat-drove to the pasture.
And I helped the agriculturist feeding and milking the cows and cleaning the stable after the drove came out on the pastureland.
These two weeks were such interesting that I want to do it for a longer time. I don’t know whether I would do this occupational so I chose this program at TravelWorks to find out.
I desire that I’ll make a lot of experiences and learn for my life. Furthermore I hope that I know what I want to do professional after this program. Maybe this time is going to change me in a few aspects but that is ok and desirable. I want to improve my English language skills and become more self-confident.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you.
Yours, *********
