Hallo!
Vielen Dank!!
Application for the EVS in Great Britain
Dear Ms XYZ,
thank you for all of your replys referring to my e-mails.
Your helpfulness has encouraged me even more to apply to… for the European Voluntary Service in Great Britain.
Especially the variety of projects corresponds with my wishes and interests. Furthermore, I really like the principles and ideals of …
My first name is XYZ and my last name XYZ. I am currently …years old and I was born in Germany. My nationality is…, but I have an unlimited residence permit.
I am a 12th grader who goes to the … grammar school. My favourite school subjects are English, French and art.
There are a lot of reasons for me to help as a volunteer in the European Voluntary Service.
I will soon graduate, however, I am still uncertain and worried about my future. After graduating, which is expected in summer 2010, I would like to get involved in volunteer work and then maybe I want to study.
Because of my wish to work as a volunteer in a foreign country, the EVS with its low costs would fit the best since my family is socially deprived – my parents are XYZ immigrants who have been unemployed for about 3 yrs - so I do not want to burden them.
Mainly I want to be there for people in need, to help and support them as a part of a community like the DRK.
The quotation “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire” has left a great impact on me and that is why I believe that it is important to not just support people financially but to actively show my efforts for others.
Moreover, it would be possible for me to gain experience and to be more self-confident and independent.
One year abroad would also prove my abilities and talents, it could help me to discover myself.
In particular, I am really interested in the English language and culture. Through the voluntary service I could not only show commitment, but also discover aspects of Great Britain and improve my English skills. Additionally, I would have the opportunity to develop my human skills and to stand on my own feet without my parent’s and friends’ help.
I have some experience abroad as I have already spent my vacations for 3 to 4 days in XYZ and I was about one month in XYZ.
I really enjoy learning foreign languages, drawing, painting, cooking and reading books.
Since primary school I always have to take care of my little brother because my parents often came home late at night due to their work. So I have already been responsible for others since a young age and my parents trust me.
I am creative and quite talented in arts. Besides I had to learn cooking and cleaning since my childhood.
I am good at school so I always help my classmates with their homework or I explain them the new subject matters.
My knowledge of languages (German, English, …) would be useful for working together with other foreign volunteers.
I have a basic knowledge of first aid which I learned in school and after-school care club. Moreover, I am physically in good form. I have some experience in selling, because I used to help my mother in her former shop.
Even though my family and I have already moved more than three times, I always managed to adapt to the new environment and I am feeling comfortable both in cities and countryside.
My characteristic qualities are tolerance, helpfulness, open-mindedness, the great interest in foreign languages and other cultures, patience, fast adaption, keen perception as well as flexibility. I enjoy working in a team but of course I can also show a lot of effort on my own.
Throughout my whole life I often doubted my decisions and thought that I led a wrong life. I asked myself more than once if I am good for anything at all and what the meaning of my life is supposed to be.
By deciding to help as a volunteer of the EVS, I want to do something from the bottom of my heart, to achieve an aim, to accomplish something and to not regret.
I really hope to hear from you in the near future.
Yours faithfully,
