Linux un WinXP Installation für doofe

Hallo!

Ich möchte auf meinenm Laptop sowohl WinXp als auch Redhat Linux installieren. Wie geh ich da vor?
Ich weiss, dass ich zuerst XP installieren muß. Wie mach ich das dann mit den Partitionen? Erst mal nur eine bzw. zwei (Daten) für XP und den Rest später?
Gleich Partitionen für Linux reservieren?

Kann mir mal jemand bitte schrittweise erklären wie ich da am besten vorgehe? Die Win-Installation ist kein Thema, aber wie siehts mit den Partitionen aus, man sagte mir, das Linux auf ner Primärpartition installiert werden soll/muß.

Vorrausetzungen sind

60 GB Festplatte, im Moment noch ohne System
WinXP Prof
Redhat Linux 9

Wunsch:
1 Partition Linux, 2 Partitionen für XP (System und Daten)
Bootmenü, wo ich auswählen kann, was gestartet wird (gibts aber glaub ich automatisch, oder?)

Wäre ganz klasse wenn das jemand mal für nen eingefleischten Windows User und Linux Newebie erklären könnte :smile:)

Win Partitionen anlegen, Windows installieren. Danach bei der
Installation RedHat sagen das es den Rest der Platte nehmen darf - da
kannst du dann die Vorschläge(Aufteilung etc.) von RedHat annehmen.
Dateisystem nimmst du am besten EXT3 oder ReiserFS falls RedHat
fragen sollte.

Wird automatisch eingerichtet - der RedHat Installer ist sehr gut,
dürftest keine Probleme haben. Ist nicht schwerer als Windows
installieren - ich frage mich immernoch warum ich bei Win98 nach dem
Festplattencheck auf Beenden klicken muss um die Installation
fortzusetzen :wink:

Er fährt seine ganzen Systemchecks und meckert dann irgendwann rum, das X-Server nicht gestartet werden kann. Dann sagt er das X-Server deaktiviert wird und bleibt dann bei localhost login stehen. Tja, und da weiss ich nicht weiter…

das X-Server deaktiviert wird und bleibt dann bei localhost
login stehen. Tja, und da weiss ich nicht weiter…

Die Gute Nachricht Linux ist gestartet nur der X Server nicht, zum
runterfahren bitte shutdown -h now eintippen nicht einfach
ausschalten. Schau mal in /var/log/ da müsste es eine XFree86.(0.)log
geben. Öffne die und such da mal nach der Fehlermeldung(sollte ganz
unten stehen) und poste die bitte.
Das geht auch von Windows aus mit Explore2fs, falls du ext2 oder ext3
als Dateisystem hast.

Hi Jan!

Ok, Fehlermeldung häng ich unten an. Ist ziemlich lang, aber ich poste sie trotzdem mal komplett, auch wenn ich mir fast denken kann, dass Du nur die untersten Zeilen brauchst :smile: Da steht nämlich was von no screen found…

Noch ne andere Frage, ich hab die Datei jetzt mit dem Programm unter Windows angeschaut, wie genau komm ich da denn unter Linux dran? Und wo geb ich das mit shutdown ein? das einzige wo ich was eingeben kann ist da bei dem localhost login, und da funktionierts nicht (ist ja auch irgendwie logisch)

Hi,

also das Problem ist folgendes, das in Redhat 9 verwendete XFree
unterstützt deine Karte noch nicht. Das geht erst mit neueren XFree
Versionen. Aber die Karte sollte mit den Vesa Treibern laufen.

Du startest Linux, bei Login tippst du root ein - dann fragt er dich
nach dem Passwort. So jetzt solltest du eingeloggt sein - dann
funktioniert auch shutdown :wink: .

Danach folgendes eintippen

cd /etc/X11

ls (da müsstest du eine Datei Namens XF86Config sehen)

cp XF86Config XF86Config.old (Sicherungskopie erstellen)

jetzt wird es seltsam :wink:

vi XF86Config (du hast die Datei in einem Editor geöffnet)

jetzt i eintippen - vi ist jetzt im Eingabemodus

du suchst folgende Zeile:
Driver „radeon“
und ersetzt radeon durch vesa

so jetzt :wq eintippen damit speichert vi und du verlässt den
Editor

gut jetzt versuch mal X mit startx zu starten. Mit ctrl + alt

  • F1 kommst du zurück zur root Konsole, X sollte unter ctrl + alt +
    F7 zu finden sein.

Das Logfile kannst du mit cat /var/log/XFree86.0.log
anschauen.

Falls du mir soweit folgen konntest sollte es eigentlich gehen :wink:

Ich versuche mal eine verständliche Anleitung für das installieren
einer neueren XFree Version zu finden.

Achso bitte die Gross-/Kleinschreibung beachten!!

Also folgen konnte ich schon, nur funktionieren tuts leider nicht :frowning:
Wenn ich radeon mit vesa getauscht hab, wo geb ich denn dan :wq ein, bin zwar letztenendes irgendwie wieder aus dem Editor rausgekommen und er hats auch gespeichert, allerdings hab ich jetzt laut dem log-file da ein :wq drinstehen, gehts deswegen evtl. nicht??

Wenn ich radeon mit vesa getauscht hab, wo geb ich denn dan

wq ein, bin zwar letztenendes irgendwie wieder aus dem Editor

rausgekommen und er hats auch gespeichert, allerdings hab ich
jetzt laut dem log-file da ein :wq drinstehen, gehts deswegen
evtl. nicht??

ups mein Fehler, hab schon lange kein vi mehr benutzt. Du musst vor
dem :wq ESC drücken. Dann sollte es funktionieren.
