aufgrund der Textstellen, die mit „lurch of/in tone“ aufzufinden sind, vermute ich, dass damit - je nach Zusammenhang - ein unerwartetes Umschlagen/Umkippen, eine Abschweifung, ein Bruch (in Stil, Genre, Kontinuität etc.) gemeint ist.
