ich nehme an, dass die Stelle nach dem Schiff „USS Milwaukee“ benannt wurde.
„During WWI, the OMAHA Class American Naval Battle Cruiser, USS MILWAUKEE, spent its time patrolling the Pacific. In peacetime, however, she went to work in and around the Caribbean. On 14 February, 1939 (when my Dad was a 9-year old tyke on St. Thomas), the Milwaukee was the first ship to record the depth of this trench. The SONAR of the day recorded a depth of 5,041 fathoms (30,246, ft). Once published, this unusual recording was refined by scientific craft, but the honorary moniker was passed down from the original vessel.“
