Hi Helge,
da irrst du dich, zu jener Zeit (1968, glaub ich), als dieser Song veröffentlicht wurde, hieß auch die Gruppe einfach nur „Manfred Mann“.
Manfred Mann’s Earth Band wurde erst später gegründet.

„Nach seinen Millionenerfolgen in den 60er Jahren („Ha, Ha Said The Clown“, „Mighty Quinn“, „My Name Is Jack“) schaffte Manfred Mann den Sprung zu einem ernstzunehmenden Musiker. Er erhielt an der Londoner Universität den Lehrstuhl für Rock- und Popmusik.
Manfred Mann schaffte auch seine zweite Musik-Geburt. Er gehört
zur Popszene seit der ersten Stunde und produzierte Millionenerfolge.
1969 wurde es still um ihn. Manfred Mann zog sich mit einem dicken Finanzpolster zurück und nur seine engsten Freunde wußten, was er machte: Er spielte Jazz. Zwar schien er damit zufrieden zu sein, doch stellte sich kein publikumswirksamer Erfolg ein.
Manfred Mann gründete 1971 seine jetzige Gruppe „Earthband“, die bis heute in unveränderter Besetzung spielt; Mick Rogers (Gitarre, Gesang), Colin Pattenden (Baß), Chris Slade (Schlagzeug) und Manfred Mann (Orgel und Synthesizer).“

sorry, aber ich muss dir noch einmal widersprechen *g*.
Manfred Mann ist natürlich eine Person, aber unter seinem Namen „firmierte“ auch die Band „Manfred Mann“. Und die wurde nie als „Manfred Mann and his band“ oder so bezeichnet, sondern immer nur als „Manfred Mann“.
Ich kann mich da noch zu gut daran erinnern. Und er stand ja schließlich auch nicht alleine auf der Bühne, wenn es z.B. im „Beatclub“ hieß: und hier kommt Manfred Mann!

Manfred Mann the person is a jazz/R&B keyboardist who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa; he formed Manfred Mann, the R&B/pop band , in Britain in early 1963 with vocalist Paul Jones.
