Hi everybody! Please, help me translate Carlheinz Behnke’s words into English starting 8:09 to the end after the words „Nein, das hab ich nicht gedacht…“ His spoken Geman is hard to understand

His spoken Geman is hard to understand

yes. Even for Germans. That’s what I hear:

„Ne, das hab ich nicht gedacht. Da haben sich auch alle dran beteiligt (?). Ich hab auf - was heißt Flüchtlinge - auf einen Schlitten geschossen, der in etwa 400 m Entfernung da über die Eisfläche zog, da hab ich mit meinen Kameraden rauf geschossen. Wir haben auch gesehen, dass die umgefallen sind. Was das waren, Kinder, Frauen, weiß ich nicht. Waren drei Mann da.“

My English is not good enough to translate, maybe someone else can help.

I tried to translate:

„Ne, das hab ich nicht gedacht. Da haben sich auch alle dran
beteiligt (?). Ich hab auf - was heißt Flüchtlinge - auf einen
Schlitten geschossen, der in etwa 400 m Entfernung da über die
Eisfläche zog, da hab ich mit meinen Kameraden rauf
geschossen. Wir haben auch gesehen, dass die umgefallen sind.
Was das waren, Kinder, Frauen, weiß ich nicht. Waren drei Mann
da.“

„No, I didn’t think so. And everybody took part. (?) I shot at - well, refugees, I don’t know - at a sledge moving over the ice in a distance of about 400m. I shot at it with my companions. And we saw that they fell. What they were, children, women, I don’t know. They were three.“

In my opinion, the part " - was heißt Flüchtlinge - " means something like: They were refugees, but we didn’t see them as refugees and I don’t want to use the word.
