Hallo,
ich suche nach einer Übersetzung für das Wort „Shewane“ - das ist ein Titel des Soweto Gospel Choir, ich nehme mal an in Zulu oder Xhosa. ich weiss es leider nicht so genau.
Kann mir da jemand helfen?

keines meiner Zulu-Wörterbücher kennt das Wort. Xhosa desgleichen.
Habe mich auch online an Tswana, Ndebele, Swazi und Sotho versucht. Auch nicht bekannt.
Ananzi.co.uk (die südafrikanische Suchmaschine) spuckt dazu lediglich, den von dir genannten Soweto Gospel Choir aus, ein einziger Link. Wenn es ein Wort wäre, müsste es mehr Treffer geben. Ich nehme deshalb an, dass es sich um einen Eigennamen/Neuschöpfung handelt.

das hilft mir auf jeden Fall schon mal weiter. Kannst Du mir eventuell noch ein paar links zu solchen Such- oder Übersetzungsmaschinen geben. Es gibt ja noch mehr schöne Lieder von denen und irgendwie wächst mein Interesse.

Shevaun ist aber auch nur eine phonetische Umschreibung des irischen Namen Siobhan.
Um das zu bestätigen, müsste man wissen, ob das Wort im Lied ausgesprochen wird.
Als südafrikanisches Wort würde ich es „sche-wane“ aussprechen (nicht she-wane z.B.).

Die Gegend um Pretoria heißt im politisch neugeordneten Land Südafrika: Tshwane.
Tshwane heißt der Fluß, den Weiße auf Afrikaans „Apies-Rivier“ genannt haben.
„Tshwane“ comes from the Setswana word „tshwana“ meaning „black cow“. During a time of drought, a black cow was used as a central part of a rainmaking ceremony whereby water was fetched from the (not yet so-named) Tshwane river and sprinkled on the cow. The cow was then allowed to graze freely, and, it was believed, rain would fall wherever the cow grazed. The story goes that the drought was broken in this way, and the river thereafter was named „Tshwane“, derived from „tshwana“ and meaning „place of the black cow“. When the city of Pretoria began to develop around the Apies river, the name Tshwane was carried over to the city.
Another explanation that has been put forth is that the river was named in honour of Tshwane, the son of Chief Mushi, who settled in the area about a century before the arrival of the Voortrekkers in the early 1800s. Tshwane is the authentic African name for Pretoria.“
