Kennan Ward - Nature-Wildlife Photographer
GORP Guest from October 2 - 23, 1998
Kennan Ward
Kennan Ward has dedicated his life to capturing rare forms of nature on film. Whether in search of an endangered rhinoceros, a once-in-a-lifetime glance from a grizzly cub, a threatened elephant, or a split-second lightning strike, Kennan explores remote regions of the world, bringing back messages of uncommon beauty.
Photographic assignments have taken Kennan and his wife, photographer Karen Ward, to the remote regions of Alaska, Canada, Africa, the Florida Everglades, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea, the Arctic, Russia, Tanzania, Guatemala, Baja California Mexico, Scotland, France, and many wilderness regions throughout the USA. The Wards also explore under the world’s oceans, capturing images which celebrate the diversity of marine life. In addition, they operate a successful publishing company, Wildlight Press, Inc.
Kennan’s work has been featured in national and international magazines, including Alaska, BBC Wildlife, National Geographic, NG World, GEO, Sierra, Natural History, Sunset, Outdoor Photographer, Outside, National Wildlife, Canadian Wild, Terre Sauvage, and other worldwide periodicals. In addition to compiling two of his own books, Grizzlies in the Wild and Journeys with the Ice Bear, his photographs have been used by book publishers such as Merril, Worth Publishing, Scientific American, The Nature Company, and Chanticleer Press.
Kennan Ward believes that"Being a nature-wildlife photographer is a demanding job…but all hardship is forgotten when eye-to-eye contact is made with a wild animal; or in experiencing the moment a window in the clouds opens up, highlighting a landscape. I feel honored to be able to bring the inspiring beauty of nature to others."
Kennan was a GORP guest in October, 1998. Please go to the Kennan Ward - Nature-Wildlife Photographer thread in GORP’s Campfire Forum, and read the questions and answers on how to get the best shots of wild animals and birds, and about his work as a wildlife writer and world traveler.
