If the independent shop isn’t in the best location and the ladenlokal (? weiss nicht, was damit gemeint ist??) is his own, then it will be difficult for him to compete in the long run.

If the small retail shop is not located at the most convenient place in the area and if its premises are not owner-occupied, it will most probably be unable to keep up with the competition for the long term.
