Kann mir jemand sagen, was bei den US-Marines ein „Stay platoon“ ist?
z.B.:
„Marines from Company I, Stay platoon, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment“
„was assigned to the 24th Stay Platoon Weapons Company, in Camp Lejeune“
„I didn’t have enough time left to join the stay platoon when I was with 1st battalion 5th Marines.“
„and got stationed back in okinawa with A Force Recon units stay platoon“

time as an assault weapons ... with A Force Recon
units stay platoon (which is nothing But snipers).

The structure of a Force reconnaissance Company is more similar to that of an infantry battalion than a standard company. The command element includes the Commanding Officer or CO (normally a Lieutenant Colonel), Executive Officer or XO (normally a Major), a Sergeant Major and the S1 (Administrative), S2 (Intelligence), S3 (Operations), S4 (Logistics) and S6 (Communications) officers. The bulk of the Company is divided into six platoons, under a Platoon Commander (Captain) and a Platoon NCO (Sergeant, Staff Sergeant or higher). One of the three platoons is a scout/sniper unit retained from the MEU’s Battalion Landing Team. Force Recon units also include U.S. Navy Corpsmen as integrated combat medical personnel, and, like corpsmen in all Marine Corps units, these corpsmen receive the exact same training as the members of the units they support.

Der Begriff „stay platoons“ kommt vom Ausdruck „stay behind mission“, auf gut Deutsch nennt sich das ganze dann „Überrolleinsatz“. Hierbei lässt sich eine Einheit vom Feind "überrollen, um dann in seinem Rücken operieren und aufklären zu können. Aus naheliegenden Gründen beschränken sich die „stay platoons“ aber nicht nur auf den Überrolleinsatz sondern sind auch in der Lage sich selbst hinter feindliche Linien zu bewegen, um dann wieder munter aufzuklären und anderweitig zu operieren (z.B. als forward air controller).
