nachdem einem ja zur Zeit wieder verschärft Weihnachtslieder in allen Variationen um die Ohren geschlagen werden, kam im Bekanntenkreis neulich eine Verständnisfrage zu einer Zeile aus dem sicher allseits bekannten „Winter Wonderland“ auf.
Hier der Kontext:

and pretend that he’s a circus clown
We’ll have lots of fun with mister snowman until the alligators knock him down
Was haben jetzt die Alligatoren mit der ganzen Sache zu tun??? Und warum werfen sie den Schneemann um? Hat jemand von euch eine Erklärung? Gegoogelt habe ich schon, ohne Erfolg.

die andere Version mit den „children“ kenne ich auch, aber wie ich festgestellt habe, ist die mit den „alligators“ offensichtlich viel weiter verbreitet.
Dass ein Hörfehler dafür verantwortlich ist, scheint wohl wahrscheinlich, denn Sinn macht die Sache mit den Alligatoren nicht unbedingt, gell? (auch wenn ich finde, dass das schon ein kapitaler Hörfehler ist…)
