I don't need to ... - I needn't

Hallo,

wer kann mir den Bedeutungsunterschied zwischen den beiden o. a. Formen erklären und/oder Belege dazu nennen?

Grüße
Carsten

„I don’t need to…“ danach folgt ein Verb oder Hilfsverb.
I don’t need to have breakfast.

I needn’t muß richtig heißen „I don’t need“, danach folgt ein Substantiv
I don’t need a breakfast

Chrizz

Hallo, Carsten,

wer kann mir den Bedeutungsunterschied zwischen den beiden o.
a. Formen erklären und/oder Belege dazu nennen?

siehe BBC - Learning English:

_ Needn’t and don’t need to

There is also a difference in use when these verbs are used to describe present situations. We can use both needn’t and don’t need to to give permission to someone not to do something in the immediate future. We can also use need as a noun here:

You don’t need to water the garden this evening. It’s going to rain tonight.
You needn’t water the garden this evening. It’s going to rain tonight.
There’s no need to water the garden this evening. It’s going to rain tonight.
You don’t need to shout. It’s a good line. I can hear you perfectly.
You needn’t shout. It’s a good line. I can hear you perfectly.
There’s no need to shout. It’s a good line. I can hear you perfectly.

However, when we are talking about general necessity, we normally use don’t need to :

You don’t need to pay for medical care in National Health Service hospitals.
You don’t need to be rich to get into this golf club. You just need a handicap._

und British Council LearnEnglishCentral:

_The difference between need as an ordinary verb and as a modal verb is the time we are referring to. Compare the two following sentences:

  • You needn’t come in to work today if you are feeling well.
  • You don’t need to work on weekends, because the office is closed.

The first sentence is referring to a situation that is (not) necessary in the immediate future. The second is referring to something that is generally (not) necessary._

Zum Glück habe ich Kres.’ Antwort gelesen, bevor ich mir die Mühe gemacht hätte, deine zu korrigieren.
Ich dachte, das hier sei ein Expertenforum?
